What is Self Storage?
Self storage, also referred to as mini storage, gives customers the ability to rent space. It may also be known as self-storage because it is not limited to business or commercial accounts. The awareness of business-storage is growing in Mississauga, Oakville, Guelph, Burlington, Milton and Woodstock.
It's a self service option – it is your responsibility to transport your belongings to our facility and pack your storage unit (and eventually to move out of your storage unit). The benefit is that you maintain control over your belongings and can pack your storage unit!
We are often asked if it's like the movies and television shows. In Canada, facilities are friendly, secure and safe. The communities of Milton, Oakville, Mississauga, Burlington, Guelph and Woodstock are reputable and businesslike.

There are several storage options such as traditional warehousing, a container at your house or you pack containers transferred off-site. Storage Solutions has chosen a unique format of individual, containerized storage units at our Milton location and a mix of traditional storage units and shipping containers at our Woodstock location. There are other options available:
Luxurious Storage: Some self-storage facilities offer temperature control and power outlets within the unit. Customers are more familiar with us and have begun to use our facility for a wider variety of business and personal reasons. We’ve spoken to some operators who offer a full concierge of options to customers – they will pack up your entire house, store your different items of furniture and artwork in different units based on humidity and temperature, and then move your belongings to your new house and unpack. We’ve yet to come across a facility like this in Milton, Guelph, Oakville, Burlington, Mississauga or Woodstock, but this might be the next big trend. And of course, their luxury services come with a luxury price-tag!
Subdivided Warehouse: Many self-storage facilities are made from one large outdoor warehouse, subdivided by block, drywall or metal paneling, which in many cases does not go all the way to the ceiling height. This is the typical format for facilities – the lines of garage doors in blue or orange and a neon sign saying “Self Storage” at the front. These self storage facilities, at least in our service areas, usually do have drive up access and you still lock your own unit and keep the key.
Multi-Story Facilities:Typically, these are a couple large loading bays that you can park your truck at and you would use freight elevators to get your belongings from your truck, up to the floor that your storage unit is located on and then you have to move your things down a hallway to your unit door. These facilities are a great use of space and we all know that space is becoming a premium. However, we can’t imagine loading an elevator with your things and having to move them down a long hallway – especially at night – so we made our facility drive-up.
Storage facilities are a developing industry in North America. Most industry organizations expect to see an increase in facilities, particularly in growing residential markets and expect to see growth in multi-story facilities. As storing externally becomes a more adopted concept for people, the demand for long term rentals of a medium sized unit are also expected to increase. In essence, it is expected that many people will have a “garage away from home”.
