It’s still winter outside and so it’s hard to imagine that the “spring” housing market is about to kick off, but it’s true. According to the Canadian Real Estate Association, housing prices in the GTA West area have increased at least 15% from this time last year. Beats the stock market! If you’re looking to cash in on these soaring prices, chances are that you’ve already had a realtor come through your house and give you a bit of a honey-do list, and you’re really not that excited to tackle it. Apart from some of the more obvious things, like painting your walls a neutral colour, getting rid of most of your personal effects, and making your house a place where people can envision themselves living, the biggest thing on your list is likely declutter and make some space.
We’ve had a lot of customers come to us with this task in hand and we have asked them why they come to us instead of using a mobile storage company where you load up your goods into a storage container on your driveway and then get it taken away. The answers have varied, but it comes down to cost and security and access. Cost, we understand. Our self-storage units are very competitive, you just can’t beat our prices. And saving the pick-up and drop-off fee can really change the financials on renting a storage unit.
The more interesting reason is security and access and it is something to consider based on your needs. You probably don’t think about this, but when your goods are taken away in a mobile storage unit, you aren’t entirely sure exactly where it will end up and how you can access it – this isn’t always the case, but it is something to keep in mind. You don’t know if the unit is going to be stacked, how gentle that storage unit will be handled, whether you’ve packed things well enough that they don’t shift, and if you need to get into your unit, that can sometimes be a problem. Some mobile storage is great, but we wanted to share what our customers are thinking so that you can ask the right questions and make the right decision for you.
All of our storage units are drive up, and you pack the unit, so you know that nothing will shift and your belongings will not break. We also take security very seriously. We have security cameras on our entire facility, we have gated access and we have on-site staff – something that a lot of storage facilities are starting to get away from. We walk around our site and notice when someone moves out and when there’s been unusual activity.
