Summer has arrived and it looks like we’re in for a very hot season.
We hope all of our friends in self-storage have some family time booked, and maybe instead of battling the lines at the airports, or the highways on the way to a cottage, you’re considering staying closer to home and enjoying the activities and events happening locally.
Thames River Melons: It’s a lot of fun to pick your own melons! Besides teaching kids that food grows from the earth (not the grocery shelves), it also just tastes better. Thames River Melons in Innerkip, has a Farm Kitchen (the smell of pies – yum!) and a Farm Food Truck. We’re really looking forward to the Harvest Brunch dates and now the additional Harvest Dinner. Harvest your own fruits and vegetables, and then cook the meal together in the Farm Kitchen – very cool! Check out their website https://www.thamesrivermelons.com/ for full details.
Woodstock Art Gallery: It’s summer, so you may be in need of air conditioning! Consider the Woodstock Art Gallery, located downtown at 449 Dundas Street, Woodstock. They have amazing collections, exhibitions and events going on all summer. Check out their website for more info: https://www.cityofwoodstock.ca/en/live-and-play/wag.aspx
Summer StreetFest and Annual Streetfest Cruise: Woodstock’s Summer StreetFest runs July 21 to 22, followed by the Annual Streetfest Cruise on July 23. StreetFest will feature live music, food vendors, artisan vendors, and while you’re at it, check out the BIA members by browsing their shops and restaurants. Downtown Woodstock has more than 250 unique businesses, all worth seeing. It’s pretty easy to check out Summer StreetFest – just show up! If you want to do a little planning or learn more, information on the music and food will be posted on their website: https://www.downtownwoodstock.ca/summer-streetfest. The Streetfest Cruise is also known as the South Gate Centre Car Cruise. Information on how to enter your car can be found here: https://www.tourismoxford.ca/events_and_experiences/festivals_and_events/south_gate_centre_car_cruise.aspx/.
COWAPOLOOZA: This event feels like it doesn’t need more information, but it runs from August 18-19, 2023, and features live music, the Coawpolooza Car Show and kids’ activities. The Sam Roberts Band is headlining the 20th anniversary of this event, which is pretty cool! The music line-up and food can be found here: https://www.cityofwoodstock.ca/en/live-and-play/cowapolooza.aspx#Food-Vendors-
Gunn’s Hill Artisan Cheese: Cheese please! Seriously - who doesn’t love cheese? We include this in our “to-do” list for most summer drives. It’s just darn good cheese and we could all use that sometimes. Located at 445172 Gunn’s Hill Road, Woodstock, Gunn’s Hill has a great reputation for their handmade cheeses. Gunn’s Hill offers online shopping for its cheeses, or you can pick-up at their cheese shop. We enjoy grabbing some different beers at Upper Thames Brewing Company and pairing them with different cheeses. You can put together a pretty upscale picnic with very little effort.
There’s a lot to do in Woodstock and the surrounding area this summer. It’s wonderful that in-person events are back on and the cloud that we all felt last summer has lifted. Let’s enjoy our community and the great summer weather!
