Who wants to be more productive during the work day? Show of hands? We thought so!
It’s true that being organized feels good but being productive feels awesome! Why? Well, because when you’re productive at work (whether you’re in the office or workplace, or chugging away at home), you’re more focused so you get more done, and do a fantastic job at the things you are working?
If you feel like your productivity needs a little (or big) boost, you may want to try some productivity.
1. Keep track of what needs to be done – The ‘To-Do List’
Start your work day by making a to-do list with set goals. In a day that you have a lot of individual tasks to accomplish, make a point to write them all down whether you use a pen and paper, or computer. The next step is to prioritize each task, so you ensure that your most important or time-sensitive items are finished first, helping you keep your deadlines.
2. Use tools to help guide you
There are so many great programs these days to help keep you on track and organized. A simple internet search will come up with countless free and paid programs that will help you make lists, track progress, and organize projects. These can be a game changer if you’re looking to keep everything in one place and stay organized. There’s no shame in keeping your pen and paper around if that’s what works best for you though, we all work differently.
3. Work on focusing on one thing at a time
Multitasking can have both a positive and negative affect on your workflow and accomplishments. Some people work best when they have a lot of diversity in their work days, however most people will actually get more done in the end by focusing on one task at a time. It may seem like multitasking will get more done, but it can be very distracting and take away from the end product. Focusing on one task at a time means that you’re more likely to catch mistakes and will result in much higher quality work.
4. Reduce email distraction
Everyone experiences the constant influx of emails these days, and most of us have several email accounts to manage. Managing distractions is a key element to maximizing productivity throughout your work day, and emails can be detrimental to this. To boost productivity, schedule time to check your emails, and leave your email accounts closed outside of those times. Random emails coming in about topics other than what you’re currently working on can bring your mind away from the task at hand, and make you think about other projects that are not the priority. Schedule regular intervals throughout the day to go through your emails and avoid the constant pop-ups they cause.
5. Group similar tasks
Depending on what your role is, and what project you’re working on, you may have projects that can be grouped together due to similarities. For example, do all of your marketing tasks together, and then move on to clearing your emails, before working on a design project. By grouping like things together, you will already be in the right headspace to continue in the same work genre, reducing the time it takes to switch over to new topics.
6. Schedule in time for breaks
Rest is very important…we repeat…rest is very important. Whether you’re working at home or in the office, it’s important to give yourself both mental and physical breaks from work. If you sit at a computer doing your work, schedule breaks to give your eyes a break away from your computer and stretch your legs. It is important to schedule in regular breaks so that you know they’re coming and can look forward to them. Taking breaks will help you avoid burning out midday and will help keep you feeling fresh and productive.
We hope you find your more productive with these tips!
