Summer is almost here! We hope you're as excited as we are...we mean, come on - who doesn’t love summer!?!
So, let's just jump right in and talk about how self-storage can help you get organized and stay organized this summer.
With summer, comes the annual changeover of seasonal items in our homes. We ditch our bulky winter clothes, and trade them in for shorts, t-shirts & flip flops. We say goodbye to our snow equipment and bring in the lawn care equipment and gardening tools.
This seasonal changeover means that we see a lot of our customers at our Milton self-storage, Woodstock self-storage, Ayr self-storage, and New Hamburg self-storage facilities changing and exchanging their stored items. Why? Because storage units are an excellent place to store things during their off season, such as:
When choosing a storage unit for your summer storage needs, it’s important to consider 2 key factors that may affect your experience:
1. Access Hours: Fortunately, we get a lot more daylight in the summer months, and we notice that many of our customers visit our facilities later in the day and take advantage of the sunlight. It’s important to consider when you’ll want to access your storage unit, as access hours can vary from 24/7 to set access times. The last thing you want to get stuck with is a storage unit rental that is never accessible when you need your stuff.
2. Temperature & Climate Control: In Ontario we experience very extreme temperatures throughout the year. This can have an effect on items in self-storage. Not all items require, or even benefit from heated ( temperature-controlled) storage or climate-controlled storage, but it is an important factor to consider. Outdoor, drive-up units are not often temperature or climate controlled, so they are not ideally suited for items such as antiques or electronics, which may be affected by slight humidity increases throughout the summer months.
TIP - The summer season is the busiest time of year for self-storage facilities. It’s important to plan ahead when looking to rent or reserve a storage unit during the warmer months, usually from May to September.
Some facilities also change their pricing during the summer, especially when vacancy is low, so you may actually save money by renting a storage unit a month before you need it. BTW, if you're curious about our storage unit rental prices, we post them on our website and work hard to make self-storage affordable.
